Omenala — Tradition
The language, the proverbs, the music and the ceremonies our fathers handed down.
The kindred
One bloodline in Umugara, Nkwerre — kept together by kola, land, and a day we refuse to forget.
Our story
We are the children of Duruawuzie na Nwahia of Umugara — one kindred spread across many homes and many towns, and once a year we all come back to the same red earth. The Day Celebration is not a party we invented — it is the day we remember out loud.
We greet the elders who are still with us. We call the names of those who are not. We break kola together, we eat from the same pots, and we teach the children the songs and the steps so that nothing is lost when the drums stop.
“Honoring our heritage, strengthening our roots, building our future.”
The language, the proverbs, the music and the ceremonies our fathers handed down.
One bloodline, one voice. We show up for each other in joy and in loss.
The stories, the crafts and the history, placed in the hands of the next generation.
